First Rate Movers schedules trips to the greater Toronto area. Destinations include Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Etobicoke, Brampton, North York, Newmarket, Scarborough and many other locations. We also deliver to Brockville, Kingston, Belleville, Oshawa, Ajax, Pickering and other towns along the 401 corridor to Toronto.
When moving from Ottawa to Toronto or one of these locations, you can realize substantial savings by co-ordinating your move through First Rate Movers as part of a consolidated or shared trip. Our customers often save up to $600 off the cost of their move compared to booking a dedicated trip.
The cost of a long distance move within Ontario is broken into two parts:
- An hourly rate for labour to load and unload the truck
- A flat rate travel charge to cover all or a portion of travel-related expenses.
Expenses include wages for driving time, fuel, kilometers, food and lodging for the crew, and any other necessary services
The savings realized by taking part in this type of move are the result of a reduction in travel charges due to other parties, moving to Toronto or returning to Ottawa, absorbing a portion of the cost. For an average trip to Toronto, the travel charge would usually be around $1600 depending on the size of the truck involved. In a consolidated trip, a moving customer could expect to save as much as 40% off of the regular travel charge.
A small two bedroom apartment usually takes around 5 hours of labour to load to and from the moving truck. At an average rate of $120 per hour, $600 would be the labor portion of the moving cost. This size move would fit in the 20′ truck for which the travel charge would normally be around $1600 or so. On a regular move then, this customer could expect to pay $2200 to move their apartment. However, the customer is flexible on the moving date and books a crew to move them to Toronto as part of a consolidated trip. The travel charge is reduced by almost 40% which saves them $600 off the total cost of the move. They end up paying $1600 instead of $2200 to move their two bedroom apartment.
