If you have the luxury of choosing your moving date, we recommend you move now before the spring rush. Yes, that’s right! We believe moving in the winter is much better than moving once the weather heats up. Here are five reasons why a winter move is the best time to pack up and go. Read More…
When moving day finally commences, stress can often arrive even before the movers do. So it’s important that everything runs as smoothly as possible in order to keep that anxiety minimal. And movers aside, a large part of the process running hassle-free comes down to how well you and all your cargo is prepared. So before that final day arrives, follow these five tips to ensure your move is smooth sailing.
Have Everything Packed and Ready
If you still have some unpacked boxes or bits and pieces you have yet to pack away, don’t expect your moving day to run promptly, especially if you’re on an hourly contract. It is imperative that you have everything packed, sealed, ready and waiting the day before the big move. So tie up those loose ends and grab your handiest friend if necessary to help. But whatever you do, make sure that you and your cargo are ready and waiting.
Have any Details of Addresses Ready
Of course, the movers need to know where they coming and going. Ensure that both addresses for pick up and drop off are provided to the company prior to moving day. And make sure that any specific details, such as parking, stairways, elevators and property management have been notified, booked, and arranged if necessary.
Tag and List Items
If your move is a long-distance haul, you must have your items tagged and listed, which should be provided by the moving company. Hold onto that copy and check off each piece of inventory before signing anything. For local moves, it’s always wise to do the same by checking your inventory yourself as it comes and goes.
Keep any Valuable and Perishables Separate
It’s always wise to keep a few of your boxes with any perishable foods and valuables such as jewellery separate. That way you don’t have to worry about them and you’ll have that extra peace of mind.
Do a Walk-Through
Once your cargo has been loaded and unloaded, it’s not over yet! First, you should always perform a walk-though of your old location to make sure nothing is hiding behind any closed doors. And assess your items upon arrival at your new destination to ensure that nothing is damaged or missing.
Once everything has been unloaded, as you begin to unpack, be sure to take note of any damaged goods and file a claim if necessary within the delineated time period. Now you can sit back, relax and enjoy your new home!
