For those of you who have called Ottawa home for many years, it’s plain to see why Ottawa is a desirable city to live in. And for those contemplating making the move to the nation’s capital, the experience is almost guaranteed to be great. The late summer and early fall can guarantee a surge in moving trucks, particularly near any college or university campus as students flock to their new dwellings eager to start their year. Ottawa has so much to offer residents of all ages, here are a few reasons why Ottawa is the greatest city to live.

Job Opportunities

Ottawa is known as a government town, meaning there are a plethora of government jobs just waiting for the right candidate. In addition to the wealth of governmental employment opportunities there is also a wide range of tech based jobs that are always looking to welcome new talent. Ottawa has been labelled the tech hub of Canada and that is a well substantiated claim. Job opportunities are ripe in Ottawa for those who are willing.

Universities and Colleges

Ottawa is home to many different post-secondary education facilities which gives students diversity in their education options. Carleton University and University of Ottawa are both world renowned universities where students can expect to receive a top-notch education from esteemed professionals. There are also a number of colleges scattered around Ottawa, the largest being Algonquin College. Algonquin offers practical programs from Office Administration to the trades and has long since had a strong history of job placement for its graduates. There are also a number of technical colleges located around the city that offer specialized training in a smaller number of programs. Ottawa is definitely a student’s market for education.

Sports Teams

Ottawa is fortunate to have a number of local sports teams for its residents to come out and support. There is the Ottawa Fury FC for soccer fans, the Ottawa Redblacks for football fans and, of course, the Ottawa Senators for hockey fans. Spring, summer, winter, or fall there is always a sport available for sports fans to enjoy.

Incredible Sights

Being the nation’s capital city there are bound to be some beautiful and historic sites to see. These sights are not simply for tourist’s enjoyment! Many locals are seen jogging around Parliament Hill, biking along the beautiful Rideau Canal, paddling along the Ottawa River or taking a hike through Gatineau Hills. There is no shortage of natural beauty in this great city, which is why so many people are proud to call it home.

Welcome to Ottawa!

New to Ottawa? Well prep yourself, because Canada’s capital city has something for everyone to enjoy. It’s a place that is encompassed by natural beauty, and the people here know how to embrace it. It’s a city full of life, with an emphasis on family living, education, outdoor adventure, and of course, convenience and entertainment. Step inside one of Canada’s best cities and you won’t want to leave. Welcome to Ottawa!

Ottawa, Ontario: Canada’s Capital

Although Ottawa is the fourth-largest city in Canada, many residents have flocked here for its small town vibe that makes it a great place for families. In comparison to its neighbouring cities, it is much quieter, safer and family-oriented – but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s no fun. Communities like Westboro, the Glebe, and Old Ottawa South have a tight knit vibe in the heart of the city, while suburban communities like Barrhaven, Kanata, and Orleans are great places to raise a family.

Recreation & Scenery

Ottawa stands on the south bank of the Ottawa River and is roughly divided into east and west by the paths of the Rideau River and Rideau Canal. With an abundance of natural settings, recreation is a large part of life here. From hiking trails, kayaking, fishing, water skiing, along with some of the country’s best ski slopes nearby– this city is your outdoor oasis in summer and winter alike.

Education & Culture

But nature aside, this metropolis is both enriching and diverse. It is home to both Carleton University and the University of Ottawa – two renowned schools with global reputations. It also houses some of the best museums in Canada, including the Canadian Museum of Nature, the Canadian War Museum, and the Canada Science and Technology Museum (set to re-open in 2017). The Canadian Museum of History lies directly across the river in Gatineau, Quebec.

Shopping & Transportation

This city has all the conveniences and amenities you need, without the overwhelming big city vibe. Take for example the Rideau Centre, one of the largest shopping malls in Canada with designer names like Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Nordstrom, and not one but two Starbucks. Additionally, there are great transportation systems. The OC Transpo bus system is robust and construction is well underway on the Light Rail Rapid Transit which is will transform transportation in the main corridor. VIA Rail connects you to other parts of the country in no time, such as Montreal and Toronto, while MacDonald-Cartier International Airport lies in the south end of the city and can take you anywhere in the world.

Living in Ottawa

Ottawa is renowned as being a safe and friendly city where families can feel at ease. It’s also a place where the federal government of Canada feels proud to call home. The small town vibe mixed with the variety of recreations, great urban amenities, and conveniences is what make this city an ideal place to call home.

Being home to some of the best educational facilities, museums, and cultural hotspots in the country are what make life in this city an overall enriching experience. But who are we to really tell you. Come and see for yourself. But be prepared – like so many others, you just might not want to leave.
